Top 5 Wynwood Weekend Adventures

March 15, 2016

The Wynwood neighborhood has historically been known as one of the more “artsy” and “eclectic” areas of Miami. There has always been cultural value in visiting Wynwood, but things started to change around 2008, when Tony and Joey Goldman envisioned a colorful future for the neighborhood. The plan was to re-invent Wynwood with entrepreneurial innovation and now the area truly serves as an international outdoor street art museum. Additionally, as the neighborhood continues to grow and evolve, it is becoming evident that this formerly industrial community is currently the “it” spot in the Magic city.

Jumpstarting this growth is the fact that Wynwood is the home of Art Basel, the world’s largest art show! Although the event stretches throughout the entire city, you can rest assured that the most eccentric elements of Art Basel will be found in Wynwood. Art Basel is normally held in the beginning of December and the multi-day event always brings herds of people that will be walking the streets looking to check out amazing art, eat delicious food and get their party on!

But, if you plan to visit Miami when Art Basel is not being held, heading to Wynwood for a weekend adventure is still your best bet for getting to see and experience the best of what Miami has to offer. In honor of one of our favorite neighborhoods in Miami, we’ve compiled a list of 5 diverse Wynwood weekend adventures for you to make the most of your time in one of the coolest neighborhoods in the world!

1. Art Walk on Second Saturdays

Art Walk is by far the most popular event in Wynwood. Occurring every Second Saturday of every month, as the name implies, Art Walk offers thousands of visitors and locals the chance to explore all of the local art galleries, art institutions and retail business including bars, restaurants and food trucks. With something to do around every corner, you and your group will never get bored! Art Walk runs between 6PM and 10PM and extends throughout the night.

2. Grab Donuts and Coffee for brunch, then Enjoy Dinner and a Movie – Wynwood style!

You can go wrong with a treat from the Salty Donut and something to wash it down from Panther Coffee. Afterwards, you can build up an appetite by browsing the neighborhood’s many boutique shops and galleries. Then, head to Wynwood Kitchen & Bar for a bite before catching a flick at O Cinema – all of these places truly exemplify the true essence of Wynwood.

Coyo Taco, Zak the Baker, Kush, Noa, Beaker & Gray and many, many more – Wynwood is home to some of Miami’s best new restaurants. According to the Miami New-Times, “Miami’s arts district is putting as much emphasis on food and drink as it does on graffiti. And there are no signs of slowing.”

4. Spend a day at the Margulies Collection – the Largest Collection of Art You’ll Ever Lay Eyes Upon.

The Margulies Collection at the Warehouse is located in a 45,000 sq. ft. retro-fitted warehouse. This very well-known collection is renowned by curators, critics, artists, dealers and collectors world-wide as one of the most important collections of its kind.
