Settled in 1892 Buena Vista was a small village that’s growth was equal to that of early Miami. People from all over the country came to settle in this village during the real estate boom of the 1920’s. Of course, Miami took off as a major metropolitan area and in many ways Buena Vista remains similar in design to its humble beginnings. This preservation has worked in its favor, as Buena Vista real estate is now highly sought-after for its classic Mediterranean-revival style homes which have been immaculately preserved form their Golden Era in the 1920’s. The Buena Vista community is also experiencing similar development and renovation as its surrounding communities The Design District, Midtown and Edgewater. Though Buena Vista is largely a residential area, it has some of the finest new restaurants and boutique shops in Miami.
Buena Vista homes have a distinct classic Mediterranean-style design that utilizes South Florida’s natural vegetation to further enhance the aesthetic appeal of Buena Vista streets and homes. Buena Vista community development is focused on updating the streets, walkway areas and local businesses without losing the charm and historic preservation that makes the community so appealing. The area also has townhomes and apartments but is largely made of classic South Florida homes. Separated into two major area – Buena Vista and Buena Vista East have distinct qualities. Buena Vista East enjoys close distance to Biscayne Bay and a lot of the new restaurants and shops. Homes in Buena Vista East are typically larger as well with immaculately preserved historic homes.
Buena Vista is now part of the city of Miami, though they were neighbors one-hundred years ago. It is located north of Downtown Miami in the up-and-coming Midtown and North Downtown Miami area. Buena Vista is within walking distance of Biscayne Bay, The Design District, Baypoint, Morningside and more. There are numerous parks in the area, some of which are directly on the water providing boat slips and other fun waterfront amenities.
