Project Prom Q&A with Rachael Rusell

March 3, 2016

Our favorite thing about being involved with Project Prom is helping students be able to be able to feel and look their best at such an important milestone in a young person life.

Now in our 3rd year of the activation, we’ve come to see that the need is so great and although Miami-Dade is thriving, there are still upwards of 500 homeless seniors who will benefit from our efforts.

We do a massive collection, with the help of Metro 1 and our community, of dresses, tuxes/suits, shoes, bags and accessories over the course of a few months. Then our team sets up our “Prom Pop Up Shop” for them to come and get styled for their big night.

It’s really exciting to see it all come together and most rewarding to see them walk out with everything they need for Prom.

stylesaves_feature3Style Saves has settled into our two annual signature events, which are: Style Saves Swim and Crazy Cool For Back 2 School, and have since started to expand the program both locally and internationally.

We’ve done mission trips in Nicaragua, Colombia, Haiti, Indonesia and South Africa with many local philanthropists in our community that bring their skill set to places where it’s so greatly appreciated.

On our last visit to MedellĂn, Colombia, we visited two orphanages with a group of 14 volunteers. We had Andrea from Junior & Hatter cut all of their hair, Aileen Quintana painting murals, futbol, English lesson, makeovers, hygiene kits and more.

These kinds of trips are so special and meaningful and we will continue to schedule them regularly. Our next stop is at the end of March, where we will be going to Havana, Cuba.
