In Little Haiti, locally-owned businesses and the employees who work for them are suffering an existential crisis due to COVID-19. These are some of the most vulnerable businesses in our community, and they are now facing the possibility of never being able to open their doors again. Losing these businesses will hurt real people, and real families, and erode the culturally rich fabric of one of Miami’s most culturally significant neighborhoods.
The Little Haiti Small Business Relief Fund will support to qualifying* locally-owned businesses by providing micro-grants, education & business mentorship on how to navigate the federal funding available to them through the SBA and additional sources. Backed by a $33,000 initial seed investment by Metro 1 Community, the initiative will be executed in partnership with a dynamic line up of non-profit and business organizations, including the Miami Foundation, The United Way of Miami-Dade, The Black Professionals Network, Branches, and SantLa.
Our goal is to initially raise $150,000, which will be distributed to as many qualifying businesses and individuals as possible. Applications will be reviewed and grants will be awarded by a non-partisan panel representing the partners that comprise the Little Haití Small Business Relief Fund. In addition, mentorship and financial counseling services will also be made available to those in need through our community partners.
The application period is temporarily closed as of 5/22/2020 at 4:00 PM. If you have submitted a request, it may take 7 days from the closing of this form for your request to be processed. Incomplete applications may take longer.
PLEASE GIVE WHAT YOU CAN TO HELP OUR NEIGHBORS AND SAVE ONE OF MIAMI’s MOST VULNERABLE NEIGHBORHOODS
Metro 1 Community is the philanthropic heartbeat of Metro 1–and permeates everything about the way we do business. From measured actions to benefit the environment to creating diversity in our partnerships and mindshare by involving local thought leaders, to giving back our “time, talent and treasure” to the organizations directly serving residents and businesses–our mission is always to leave the neighborhoods we touch better than we found them. Metro 1 Community helps us do that in meaningful, impactful ways, across the city of Miami.
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH
In addition to providing financial assistance, Metro 1 Community is also committed, along with our partners, to providing counseling and mentorship services to Little Haiti’s business owners and entrepreneurs. These volunteers from within the business community will help business owners navigate the COVID-19 crisis, apply for additional federal and state funds, and help sustain their employees, if possible, during this time.
