Job Description

The CFO/Controller position is responsible to manage all financial, accounting, property management & HR responsibilities and reporting of the various business operations:
commercial brokerage, residential brokerage, property management, asset management, investments, development and capital management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as liaison between Accounting and other departments, including property management, asset management, and capital management, as well as, local, state, and federal agencies, as appropriate.
  • Establish full understanding of all partnership, management agreements and loan agreements, ensuring full compliance with all loan documentation and that financial statements accurately reflect the terms of such agreements.
  • Obtain updates on the status of the project/property that may impact preparation of books and records.
  • Review accruals prepared by Building Management Office to determin proper accounting standards are followed.
  • Generate accurate and timely, monthly and quarterly, financial reports including GL, balance sheets, income statements, management statements, AR reports, AP reports, sales tax reports, tenant statements.
  • Prepare and generate updated cash flow projections, budgets, variance reports, quarterly reports to owners, and other information requested by management.
  • Prepare all budgets for all properties.
  • Establish and enforce work flow, policies and procedures for accounting department.
  • Oversee and implement streamlined, cost-effective accounting procedures.
  • Review effectiveness of accounting personnel, systems and effectiveness of accounting procedures.
  • Hire, train and manage all accounting personnel.
  • HR management – enforce all HR policies and procedures.
  • Process the payroll accounting and funding transactions in cooperation with third party payroll and benefits providers.
  • When necessary, provide appropriate information to Asset Management and Property Management to complete the monthly reforecast against original budget.
  • Review and evaluate current and future cash requirements.
  • Perform bank reconciliations.
  • Discuss cash management, performance management, and related issues with senior management.


  • Provide assistance for any escalation audit reviews with tenants
  • Prepare annual evaluation of junior professional staff.
  • Responsible for Fund level reporting on a Fair Value basis, where applicable.
  • Record opening, cost segregation and closing entries in conjunction with new acquisitions and dispositions respectively.
  • Prepare finance and investment memos.
  • Prepare cash flow and investment analysis for various investments in real estate, private equity, finance & other industries.

  • The Property Controller must be able to perform the duties of the job.
  • 10+ years’ experience in real estate accounting. Auditing experience with emphasis on Real Estate and CPA accreditation preferred.
  • Ability to operate computer system and effectively input and download pertinent information.
  • Ability to, and has sufficient knowledge of computer software currently utilized by the Company.
  • Must have good Excel skills.
  • Ability to effectively listen to co-workers and respond to their requests.
  • Graduate Level Degree / MBA Preferred
  • Familiar with tax law and compliance issues

Language Ability

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Math Ability

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or
diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
