Tony Cho is a neighborhood and community developer who has been a pioneering force in the redevelopment of Miami’s urban core neighborhoods since 2000. In 2005, Tony founded Metro 1, a full service vertically integrated real estate organization focused on creating sustainable urban neighborhoods throughout the South Florida region and beyond with an emphasis on arts, culture, innovation, technology and creativity. Metro 1 has been a staple in Wynwood, The Miami Design District, Buena Vista, MiMo, Downtown, Miami’s Upper East Side, Allapattah and Little Haiti/Little River neighborhoods for more than a decade and has garnered numerous accolades from local and national organizations. Metro 1 has been responsible for bringing such brands as Zak the Baker, Cake and Junior and Hatter among others to Wynwood. Tony was one of the founding Wynwood Business Improvement Board (BID) members and was instrumental in the creation and passing of the progressive zoning initiative called the Wynwood NRD (Neighborhood Revitalization District), which has received national recognition for forward thinking, progressive zoning.
In 2011, Tony was awarded the prestigious Young Leader of the Year Award from the Urban Land Institute for his role in the redevelopment of Miami’s urban core neighborhoods, most notably Wynwood.
In 2012, Tony developed the Wynwood Gateway Complex, an adaptive re-use project, at the corner of 29th St & NW 2nd Ave in the heart of the Wynwood Arts District and is currently developing the Wynwood Greenhouse Park, which is an
open-aired greenhouse scheduled for completion in early 2017, which will serve as a butterfly-bird sanctuary and park in the heart of Wynwood. Cho was also a principal in the recently completed Rail 71 Project, which was an adaptive re-use warehouse project consisting of 140k SF in Miami’s Little River Business District.
Recently, Tony and Metro 1 Development, partnered with one of the nation’s largest developers, Jorge Perez, Carlos Rosso and the Related Group of Florida, to co-develop the first ever mixed-use micro-condo building in Miami targeting millennials and creatives. This innovative project will be located in Wynwood and is expected to launch sales in early 2017.
Tony is also a co-founder of Cho Dragon Management, which is currently developing Magic City, located in Miami’s Upper East Side area in the middle of the culturally and historically rich neighborhoods of Little Haiti, Lemon City and Little River.
Magic City will be a city of the future and a HUB for sustainability, innovation, creativity, entertainment, and technology. Magic City currently is comprised of 15 contiguous acres and a multitude of existing industrial buildings slated for adaptive repurposing, in the heart of Miami’s up and coming urban core just north of the Miami Design District. The Magic City Project is a long-term community building neighborhood development project that seeks to engage the surrounding communities, while bringing innovation, jobs and creativity to the development process and revitalizing the entire area for the enrichment of all stakeholders. Eventually, this will be a thriving mixed-use neighborhood where creatives, innovators, artists, and entrepreneurs will live, work, play, together; all close to the most important physical, cultural, social, educational and recreational infrastructure the city of Miami has to offer.
Magic City will launch its first event during Art Basel 2016 in the Magic City sculpture park and host interactive events in the newly created Magic City Studios located at 6301 NE 4th Ave.
Tony and Metro 1 Development are currently in various stages of evolution on additional projects throughout South Florida including a retail project in the Midtown/Design District area, a multi-family project in Ft. Lauderdale’s Flagler Village and a mixed-use hotel project in Brickell.
Metro 1 Development has a clear vision and long standing track record for shaping unique urban neighborhoods and is actively seeking strategic investors, development partners and property owners interested in collaborating to create meaningful real estate development projects that not only provide an ROI for the investors and developers but also add value to the communities that they impact.
